If you have irrigation rights that you are not using or do not want, EPWater might be interested. If you do not have access to irrigation water on your property but you own the rights, consider letting EPWater take the worry out of paying your water rights taxes.
Under a joint water rights leasing program with the El Paso County Water Improvement District #1, EPWater leases the water rights and will:
- PAY your annual water rights taxes to the District for the lease term
- PAY any water rights taxes that are delinquent and owned to the District at the time of lease signing
- PAY you a one-time lump sum payment of $2,500 per acre, prorated, to be paid in 60 days after lease signing
A lease with El Paso Water is strictly voluntary and runs with the land for a lease period of 75 years.
ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?
- You must own land within the El Paso city limits that has water rights.
- The property must be two (2) acres or less in size.
- All owners of a property must sign a lease with the District and EPWater
