EL PASO – El Paso Water Utilities (EPWU) is celebrating Drinking Water Week (May 1-7) by hosting local high school students for a behind-the-scenes look at the Jonathan Rogers Water Treatment Plant in East El Paso to learn about water quality and sustainability. The theme for this year's celebration is "El Paso Water: To Know it is to Love it."

SIGNIFICANCE OF PLANT: Completed in 1993, this is one of two EPWU plants that treat water from the Rio Grande. By producing 60 million gallons of water per day from seasonal river water, the Plant plays an important role in El Paso's water sustainability strategy by helping preserve aquifer resources. The Plant has received the Director's Award from the Partnership for Safe Water in recognition of the quality of the drinking water produced by the plant and of the plant's design, operation and administration.
SIGNIFICANCE OF DRINKING WATER WEEK: EPWU has been participating in Drinking Water Week along with other American Water Works Association members for the past three decades.
El Paso Water Utilities (EPWU) operates and maintains four utilities - water, wastewater, reclaimed water and stormwater. The Public Service Board (PSB), created in 1952, oversees EPWU.
